Project #: WEF706 Amount: For each house $1,170 U.S.; total need $63,180 During Christmas 2007, anti-Christian attacks in India’s Orissa state killed six Christians and razed at least 730 houses and 95 churches. The attacks, lasting more than a week, left many Free Methodists homeless. People around the world were shocked by the boldness and severity of these attacks. The news stories have ended, but even now, six months later, the effects of the attacks continue to create a crisis for fellow Free Methodists. Over 300 families from our Free Methodist churches have been displaced; 54 of them are in desperate need of shelter. While other houses were partly damaged or looted, these houses were completely burned. These families lost everything they had. They are currently taking shelter in temporary bamboo huts covered with black polythene and tarpaulin. A list of the 54 families in urgent need of housing has been prepared. The houses to be built will be 300 square foot structures (25 ft. long x 12 ft. wide) with one room and a kitchen. The house will have a stone foundation, brick and cement walls and tin sheet roofing. Give now
