Seth and Hlawn Hlawn Van Tifflin

Seth and Hlawn Hlawn Van Tifflin have been released to the field! Since 2010, when they got married, they have dreamt of one day moving to Asia together as missionaries. Now, on August 9, they will make their dream reality as they move to Chiang Mai, Thailand as Free Methodist missionaries. This will be their first time living in Asia as missionaries after years of traveling between Michigan and Myanmar, Thailand, and Cambodia. They both hold strong ties to Asia, as Hlawn Hlawn originates from Myanmar (Burma) located in South Asia. While, Seth fell in love with Asia – the people, the church, the food – on his first trip to Asia when he went on a three-week exploratory mission trip to Thailand and Myanmar with a VISA IMPACT team in July 2006.

Predominately, their ministry has focused on areas of need dealing with anti-slavery work. In early 2012, the Van Tifflin’s were led by the Holy Spirit to establish “In Better Hands,” a 501c3 ministry service in Myanmar which provides safe homes for children in danger of being trafficked. Since then, God has blessed their efforts and their ministry has grown to 11 safe homes (six in Myanmar and five in Cambodia). In the years to come, they hope to continue to expand this ministry into more Asian countries. Currently, Seth serves as the Asia Area Administrator for FMWM, while also working closely with the Asia Area Director. As administrator, he will be planning the Asia conferences and trainings, overseeing the budget process for other Asia missionaries and country leaders, as well as serving as a point person for ICCM, SEED and other affiliate ministry partners of FMC-USA. Further, he will also maintain a line of communication with the home office staff to provide up-to-date information about the happenings in Asia.

Please pray as the Van Tifflin’s prepare for their new adventure! Pray both for the little things, like packing up their belongings and saying goodbye to life in the U.S. and for the big things, like preparing their hearts to serve the Lord in Thailand.
