This is a continuing story! The 2012 Kenya Bike Team biked through Kenya to raise funds for a boy’s high school. About $47,000 was raised, paving the way to purchase the property and get the project rolling.
This past December construction was started on Phase 1 of Dr. Buconyori’s Free Methodist Boy’s High School in Soy, about 30 miles north of Eldoret. Construction includes four buildings which will house two classrooms, office space, kitchen and dining facilities, a student dorm and staff housing. The property has been fenced and has a small house for the caretaker and storage. These four buildings are projected to be completed by the end of February and the keys handed over to our Free Methodist Church Kenya ICCM High School Committee.
Pictured at the right is the current eighth grade class at Kericho Light and Life Academy. Some of those pictured will be our first students to attend Dr. Buconyori’s Boy’s High School! Eighth grade students in Kenya are called “candidates” because they will sit for their national exams by November and will be “candidates” for enrollment in high schools around the country, based on their performance. We’re excited that some of these students will be a part of the first group of young men attending the first Free Methodist Church ICCM high school in Kenya!
Many times we have hoped things would move faster .. but we know God’s timing is best. Our goal is to have the buildings fully equipped and all faculty and teachers in place in order to receive these students and others in January 2017. Stay tuned for additional chapters of this story!
