Japanese Free Methodists Elect New Bishop

Free Methodist Church – USA Bishop Matthew A. Thomas has released the following statement about the election of a new bishop of the Free Methodist Church – Japan:

Japan elects new bishop 20160226_213008-300x169I am pleased to announce that on February 27, 2016, the Japan General Conference of the Free Methodist Church elected Rev. Yuichi Honda as their eighth bishop. Japan is in its 56-year history as a General Conference. It was my privilege to serve as an observer for the General Conference sessions.

Bishop Honda has served decades in local church ministry in Japan and was well received by the pastors and laymen and laywomen of the General Conference after his election. Bishop Honda follows Bishop Junichi Hatano who completes four years of service and will remain in pastoral ministry. I am thankful for Bishop Hatano’s service to the Japan church.

Please pray for the new bishop, and also for the growth of the Japan General Conference as it attempts to reach out more broadly to the people of Japan for Jesus Christ.
