Middle East
Your Prayers – Making an Impact
In the Middle East, we empower national leaders to proclaim the grace and truth of Jesus and plant reproducing house churches among the underserved.
Pray for House Churches in the Middle East
Our primary strategy for impacting the Middle East is the multiplication of house churches among the underserved peoples – those who are unchurched and those of the majority religious background. House churches reflect the New Testament model, avoid costly buildings, allow rapid expansion and draw less attention than large public buildings.
Pray for National Leaders
We are also working to equip and release national leaders to plant house churches and develop local leaders. National leaders are given freedom to create hybrid models fitting their ministry context. Young women are viewed as having an equal calling and are developed as leaders in a region where women are traditionally ostracized or neglected. We frequently partner with leaders of other traditional denominations who have a passion for proclaiming Christ and planting churches.
Pray for Ministries of Love and Compassion
We not only proclaim the grace and truth of Jesus through house church networks but also through love and compassion expressed to the people of the region. Women leaders minister to women and girls who have been physically and sexually abused. Leaders minister to male violent offenders in a maximum security prison and to their families outside the prison. Communities of friendship and love are created for at-risk young adults. “Searching Groups,” comprised of educated and often affluent members of the primary religion, gather in cities to discover Who Jesus is.
Praise the Lord for New Opportunities
God is opening networks, providing new leaders and expanding His kingdom in the Middle East. We praise the Lord that we are entering three new countries in the Middle East. Pray for our leaders as they go into these new areas, often places antagonistic to the message of the gospel.
Continue to pray many will find the answer to the question, “Who is this Jesus?”
─ Dale, Middle East Area Director

Available and Willing
Pastor Yembekezeni Kantini leads a growing Free Methodist church just outside the capital city of Lilongwe, Malawi, in a village called Mtonda. Though a fully organized society, the Mtonda Free Methodist Church had been without a pastor for some time following the death of its pastor. The conference had been unable to provide one, as there was no available trained pastor. During this time, Yembekezeni Kantini volunteered to lead the church. Yembekezeni had no theological training, but he was willing and available.
The Logical Choice
Kalson was a member of Full Gospel Mission back home in the north. But when he came to Douala (Cameroon), he occasionally fellowshipped with the Free Methodists. “Occasionally” is an honest and generous adverb. Kalson is a teacher of philosophy and logic. About two years ago, he came south looking for work. He did find work but did not find time for God. He felt he needed God but says about those days, “Because of rent, I needed to work, and so I set the things of God aside.”
Thriving from East to West…Africa
Thrive Kenya leaders Yvonne Mtafuta and Lillian Kanji were excited, eager and a bit nervous in the weeks leading up to their first international mission trip. They had the opportunity to travel to West Africa where they would share about Thrive with the FMC in Lomé, Togo. Yvonne and Lillian loved the experience of “international travel.” Flying for the first time is always exciting – right? But there was so much more that made this trip an unforgettable experience for them and others!

How Can I Forgive
Sumayya*, a Yazidi girl, had attended a seminar about forgiveness at our center. I later visited her at home to ask her about the seminar and her thoughts about the topic. Her mother and two of her siblings were present as well. Sumayya shared that she couldn’t understand how to forgive people who committed horrible acts such as Dae’sh (ISIS) had done to the Yazidi people. They had killed men, raped women and young girls, and destroyed their homes and possessions. Those who survived had to leave their homes and become refugees.
“I loved the message, but…”
We invited a woman from one of our searching groups to join us for an event explicitly organized to reach people for Christ. The messages we delivered were very clear, and we felt the Holy Spirit surrounding and touching the event and many hearts. When the event was finished, the woman came to me saying: “I loved the message. It was good, but I can’t accept Jesus as Savior for my life. That decision would turn my life upside down.”

North Macedonia
In 2016 a church was launched; then, it was closed due to persecution. In 2017 four church plants were launched in a different region of North Macedonia, and all are doing well. The Balkan Provisional Annual Conference provides oversight to these churches.
Republic of Ireland
The first Free Methodist church in the Republic of Ireland was established in Monaghan. Called the FM Hope Christian Fellowship, the church is principally comprised of Congolese refugees who came to Ireland through a relocation program offered by the Irish government. Rev. Abwe Mulonda, who began the FMC’s ordination process while living in a Tanzanian refugee camp, serves as the congregation’s pastor. The church meets on Sundays in rented facilities and has congregants who travel to Monaghan each weekend from Cavan, Dublin, and other parts of Ireland. The church is registered as a charity in the Republic of Ireland. Ongoing supervision of the work in the Republic of Ireland takes place through the U.K. Annual Conference.
