PRESENT MINISTRIES
FM churches are established in the western region and several of Kenya’s major cities. The work is also in several rural areas. The modular program of Springs of Hope Bible School in Eldoret helps train church leaders. Tumaini Women Kenya (TWK) helps encourage fellowship, accountability and support within groups while assisting both men and women in growth toward economic stability. The U.S. church partners with Thrive, a young women’s ministry of discipleship and advocacy against gender-based violence and sex trafficking.
ORIGINS
Pastor Elie Buconyori left his homeland of Burundi for Bible college in Kenya. Following graduation he was offered a job in Christian literature development. Along with other Free Methodists working or studying in Kenya, a Free Methodist home fellowship was started with Pastor Buconyori as their leader. The influx of experienced leadership from Burundi and Rwanda during the crises in those countries greatly assisted the new work in Kenya.
The Kenya church reached provisional general conference status in March 2009. The conference is comprised of three annual conferences. One of them includes work in Uganda.

Supporting Kenya Church Planting and Development (CPD) will help resource the following people and strategic initiatives:
- Scholarships for pastor-students at the Kenya FM Bible School who gather for training modules three times a year
- Continuing education seminars for the majority of Kenyan pastors who are not Bible school students

Set Free Kenya
In a context where violence against women is high, Set Free Movement Leaders are working to catalyze an abolitionist culture in Kenya. Through Thrive, young women are mentored to become role models and community advocates addressing gender-based violence and human trafficking.
Mentoring Women: Leaders Yvonne and Lillian work to disciple young female leaders aged 20-26, mentoring them to become role models and sources of support to other women and girls.
Community Advocacy: This discipleship group is trained to help shift harmful value systems that perpetuate injustice, striving to build a resilient community with zero tolerance for gender-based violence and human trafficking.

Tumaini Women Kenya
Tumaini Women Kenya, a Free Methodist NGO was founded in 2012. They work with our local churches and communities to find African solutions to African challenges. There are currently 31 TWK groups located throughout Kenya, each with an average of 20 members. Though TWK focuses on women, men are also welcome in the groups.
Tumaini Women Kenya encourages fellowship, accountability, and support within the groups. They provide a safe place for women and men to have access to low interest loans. In TWK groups, every member is required to save money each month, even while they’re repaying their loans. By doing this, they’re consistently adding to their savings which gives them the ability to take larger loans when needed.
In order to facilitate and serve more groups, TWK’s future plans include additional Human Resources, administrative help, and the purchase of land for the building of a training and meeting center.
