Pray For

  • Bishop Samuel Kayinamura as he leads the FMC in Rwanda, the Uganda Provisional Conference and the Free Methodist World Conference
  • Free Methodist pastors to be guided by the Holy Spirit in all their decisions and actions
  • provision of financial resources to construct the new church and headquarters building in Kigali
  • the mission and outreach efforts of the FMC, that they will spread the gospel throughout the country, including in the administrative sectors
  • continued education of students at Kibogora Polytechnic
  • the work of Kibogora Hospital

Kibogora Hospital Internal Medicine Project

Since 2021, Kibogora Level Two Teaching Hospital has made significant progress in both infrastructure and the quality of healthcare services provided.

However, we continue to face a major challenge regarding the old surgical building, which currently houses our internal medicine department. This infrastructure is severely old: the flooring is in poor condition, and the internal layout is inadequate for both patients and healthcare professionals.

PRESENT MINISTRIES

Education is still a priority of the Free Methodist Church in Rwanda. There are 40 nursery schools, 45 primary schools and 29 secondary schools. Kibogora Polytechnic is expanding with a new campus (branch) in Rusizi District. The medical ministry also remains strong, with Kibogora Hospital as a primary referral center (now ranked a Level II Teaching Hospital) in southwestern Rwanda. Health care is also provided in neighboring centers.

The church has a growing number of annual conferences, and they see steady growth. ICCM sponsors more than 1,074 children in Rwanda, including those in two centers for special-needs children. Kigali City Master Plan aims to extend Gikondo-Rebero Road, which will destroy the main parts of the existing church building and force the construction of a new church building in Kigali.

ORIGINS

Pioneer missionaries Frank and Hazel Adamson, coming from Burundi, established the first Free Methodist mission at Kibogora in 1942. A great revival broke out in the area within a few years, resulting in thousands of conversions. This revival was part of a larger movement known as the East Africa Revival. Medical work and an elementary school opened soon after the first missionaries arrived. Later a Bible school was started. The Rwanda conference developed an aggressive church-planting program and now has churches in every province of the country. In August 1985, Rwanda became a general conference.

In 1994 Rwanda’s ethnic conflict erupted in a period of genocide. Missionaries were evacuated. Hundreds of thousands lost their lives. Millions more fled to refugee camps in neighboring countries.

Church Planting & Development

Funding Rwanda Church Planting and Development (CPD) will help resource the following people and strategic initiatives:

  • Spiritual ministry to patients at Kibogora Hospital through Christian literature, home visits and special evangelism weeks, including special speakers and teams. The head chaplain of the hospital, with two other chaplains, oversees this ministry.
  • Scholarships for pastors attending the Free Methodist Church’s university.

Extra Mile Projects

Kibagora Hospital Operation

Kibogora Hospital encounters many expenses that impact patient care. The Operations Fund helps support the hospital in covering these expenses. Whether repairs to hospital equipment, the purchase of critical medications, or the provision of teaching materials for staff to use in various trainings, these funds are available to assist necessary costs. When resources impacting day to day functions of a hospital are sparse, it can be challenging to provide patients with adequate care. By giving to the Kibogora hospital Operations fund you can serve as a supportive partner in helping the hospital overcome these challenges.

Kibogora Hospital Building Project

In the past, this fund has been used to contribute to the construction of new buildings at Kibogora Hospital. Most recently, funds were used to aid in the completion of the new maternity building, which opened in January 2023 and provides improved care for mothers and infants. In 2024, the construction of a new, more functional Emergency Room (ER) was completed. The current need is to refurbish the Internal Medicine ward of the hospital, ensuring safer and better patient care in a dignified environment. These projects are crucial to improving rural Rwanda’s healthcare infrastructure and access to healthcare services. Thank you for your generous support, which has enabled Kibogora Hospital to achieve and maintain its status as a Level Two Teaching Hospital.

Kibogora Malnutrition Project Fund

Kibogora Hospital administers a program caring for malnourished persons. FMWM partners with the Rwanda Free Methodist Church to help malnourished people back to health. This account provides some support for this program.

Burn Prevention & Care of Burn Survivors

Funds given to Burn Prevention and Care of Burn survivors goes to support:

  • School fees for burn survivors who require specialized education at a school for disabled students in Rwanda.
  • Annual burn survivors’ events to support events to assist them spiritually, emotionally, socially and physically.
  • Ongoing community education on burn prevention and first aid care as well as the education of healthcare workers on proper care for burn patients.
