Pray For

  • Bishop Pedro Viegas Simão – his leadership and advancement of the church, and his need for basic transport for his work
  • teachers to train pastors at the Seminary of Beira, the Bible School of Inhamachafo and the Bible School by extension of Maputo
  • improvements in facilities and more doctors at Nhaloi and Inhamachafo Hospitals
  • God’s blessing as the Mozambican FMC seeks to raise funds to provide a house for a missionary to Eswatini

PRESENT MINISTRIES

The church in Mozambique oversees the Nhaloi Hospital, the Inhamachafo Clinic and the Primary School. The Inhamachafo Evangelists Training School, started by missionaries, is still in operation. Currently, the post-secondary theological seminary in Beira is closed due to insufficient financial support to cover the expenses of teachers and students.  The country has also suffered several natural disasters in recent years – drought, floods and cyclones ̶ causing significant loss and hardship.

OUTREACH TO THE WORLD

The conference has begun work in Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) and Angola. FMC’s work in Eswatini was going well until the beginning of Covid-19 in 2020. The missionary who was in Eswatini, António Muti, had to return to Mozambique last year.

ORIGINS

Three of the five missionaries who arrived in South Africa in 1885 traveled northward to Mozambique. G. Harry Agnew, one of them, built the first Free Methodist chapel in Africa.

Following the country’s independence in 1975, a Marxist state developed. All Free Methodist medical work was nationalized and private schools closed. Missionaries were withdrawn from the country. The church, however, was strong and has carried on in spite of oppression.

Church Planting & Development

Funding the Mozambique Church Planting and Development (CPD) will assist with teachers’ salaries, students’ food and overall expenses that would otherwise fall to students of Mozambique’s Bible school and seminary.
