PRESENT MINISTRIES
Almost half of the Costa Rican population lives in the Central Valley, an urban sprawl surrounding the capital city, San José. Four of the district’s churches are in this Central Valley; the other two are several hours north toward the Nicaraguan border. The district prioritizes developing healthy leaders, multiplying committed disciples, planting churches, strengthening the FM identity and achieving financial sustainability. Through conference-wide collaboration for missions and holistic transformation, they are experiencing fruit as they support the needs of immigrants, serve the impoverished and provide rehabilitation to those struggling with addiction.
ORIGINS
In early 1990 a group of some 300 adults who had formerly been part of the Methodist Church heard about the Free Methodist Church from Spanish speaking Free Methodists in Lawrence, MA, and expressed interest in affiliating with a holiness denomination. Free Methodist missionaries studying language in Costa Rica at the time made contact and began attending services. Later the area director visited the congregation’s leadership and took steps to establish a formal relationship between the Free Methodist Church and the congregation. In October of 1990, this group was approved as a mission district under Free Methodist World Missions. Contacts through Costa Rica provided the bridge to start the FMC in Nicaragua, Colombia, and a creative access country, as well as the new 360 Mission District.

One Body
Psalm 42 is a precious portion of God’s Word. Here the psalmist opens his soul and allows us to see his reality and emotions: exhaustion, sadness, anguish, loneliness and a crisis of faith. What a contrast to our expectations from a servant of the Lord! Amid the pandemic, many of our Latin American leaders have experienced similar circumstances and deep emotions.

Costa Rica Strategic Initiatives
The Costa Rican Mission District is reaching out to serve its community in integral ways. This fund is used to meet needs that go beyond the Church Planting and Development budget. These funds will play a significant role in the restoration of Costa Rica, supporting programs such as a rehabilitation center, job skills training, a cafeteria for underprivileged children, care for immigrants, and more. In each case, the church strives to share God’s love by meeting the needs of the people in their community in tangible ways.
Goal: $100,000.00
